Five years ago today I proposed to you. Here is just a little of what I remember....
I have it all planned out. I have gone through so many thoughts on how I could and want to do it. Hot air balloon? Nah, too easy to know what's up. Jazz game? Nope, too public for us. A quick weekend trip with friends? Can’t make it work. Finally I got the idea a couple of people agreed would be great and ran with it. Well, I have to see how this is going to look and work.. Lets lay all the candles out in the parents bedroom floor and try to get the right amount of candles and spacing needed to spell, “Marry Me.” I need to go get roses. I need to make sure we are on time. I need to try and trick her somehow, she is smart, one of the greatest things about her. She will know something is up… OH, got it. We will be going on a “double date” with Saager and I’ll set a timer on my phone as a fake phone call, talk in Cebuano to have her think we really are meeting Saager for a double date. Got the ring….the ring….oh yep here it is. Can’t let her see this in my pocket. Ill wear a thick coat for it to not be as noticeable. I know everyone loves this ring, got to keep this safe. Okay, mom and John are going to be there just after 5pm to set up everything on the last part of the slay ride. I love those guys. So helpful.
I’ve prayed I think 100 times to make sure this is right. She makes me so happy. She makes me so much better. She is so kind. She is gorgeous. She has so much fun with me and we laugh a lot at the simplest things. She is so smart. She is a BYU grad and I can look past that. I have been told before that if I am able and willing to listen to the prompting of the spirit, Heavenly Father will take me off the wrong path I have chosen quickly after choosing that one and we have been dating for a while now and nothing but great feelings and happiness has been felt so.. K time to go….. Oh wow.. she looks so amazing. I am nervous. I wonder if she can tell?? Hope the alarm I set as a fake phone call works… Yep there it is, don’t let her see it is an alarm…"Oi Brad, musta tika?? OO, hapit na mi sa Home Stead. Asa man ka d i? O cge gwapo, makita ka sa mga 30 minotos! Salamat!" "Yeah that was Saager, he is about 30 minutes out so right on time with us"….. think she bought it?? I think so. She seems a little off now. A little less expecting something type of off. NICE! Oh wait…was that our exit?? Shoot, I dunno… crap…. Gotta call mom and play it off as she needed something really fast… “Hey mom, yeah sure, umm just wondering which one it was… oh it was that one, whoops, okay. Wait which one??”..No, don’t put me on with the sleigh ride guy…. “Hey yep, uh huh… oh I see..Okay thanks!!”... Crap..I wonder if Em heard a dudes voice half way through that call with my mom… I swear I am on the right road they said to take.. oh yep. Found it! K make sure she doesn’t see the ring box in your jacket…I think the sleigh will just be in back? There is the horse and snow sleigh and the guy I talked to on the phone for direction help... “Hi, yeah I am Jason and this is Emily. Yeah let’s do it!” Too bad the sleigh guy said "you finally found us." ahemmm...did Emily get that? That I was talking to him on the phone and not my mom? It's okay, just a few hiccups. …Man, its a little colder than I thought it would be. Not having winter for two years was so nice. She looks so beautiful. I hope mom and John get it set up in time! They should be pulling in now. I hope this works out how we planned this… This is nice.
The sleigh driver is really nice and seems to love to talk about, well anything. Just praying he didn’t feed the horse beans before the ride like in that Seinfeld episode. That would be a great memory though…kind of... Alright, this is it. Coming up on the last straight away. She sees something ahead. Oh boy..The girl I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with and into eternity... My stomach is going crazy with excitement. Wow, mom and John did such an amazing job! The driver stops, Emily is smiling so big. The roses all around in the white snow and candles lit as it is almost dark now spelling out Marry Me looks so awesome. Getting out of the sleigh, oh the snow is a little deeper than I thought. I don’t care. This is awesome. Ya know, I really hope she says yes… K get the ring out..down on one knee…oh that’s cold…I am a little shaky... “Emily. Will you marry me??” Yes? She said yes! Man, the nerves are gone and I am so happy right now. “Hey could you take a couple of pictures of us with this?” Hope the sleigh guy knows how to use that camera… “Thanks!” Yikes, better take one myself incase all of these are blurry...Alright, taken a bunch of pictures and mom and John are still here I think to take all of this, lets go eat and warm up inside.
“So did you know??” I asked her... She said “I thought you were going to do it because I could tell you were nervous or a little weird but then when Saager called I was thrown off. But then you said you talked to your mom after on the phone and I heard a mans voice half way through so then I knew it was it. It also didn't help that the driver said "You finally found us!"
I am just so glad you said yes…..
